Pump Station #3424 / Station D Wekiva, 3/18/18 Pump Station 3424 / Station D Wekiva failed due to a power loss caused by a tripped breaker. This allowed the gravity collection system to discharge out of manhole #34240004 onto a paved road surface located on the west right-of-way of Piedmont Wekiwa Road. The overflowed volume flowed into a single storm water inlet box which discharged into a nearby dry storm water retention pond. No recovery could be made as the storm water system was dry and the untreated waste water was rapidly absorbed into the soil inside the dry storm water retention pond. Field Services staff returned the pump station to normal operation. Piedmont-Wekiva Road was washed down, deodorizer applied, and reopened to traffic. Orange County Environmental Protection Division and Florida Department of Environmental Protection have been notified. The approximate gallons released and recovered are estimated to be as follows: 1,000 Gallons Released, 0 Gallons Recovered, 1,000 Gallons not Recovered, and 0 Gallons Discharged to Surface Water. SR 54 and Morris Bridge Road There is a old 2" F/M that was used for the old Cumberline Farms convenience Store along with a couple small stores. This force main was from an old private pump station that tied in to our 12" force main. Neither the force main or the isolation valve were marked onour prints. The lot is now vacant land and is being cleared for road expansion, and they were trenching to add in conduits and the contractor hit the 2" force main. Locates were called in, but nobody knew that the 2" force main had existed there. Arrived on site, and AHOOKS located the isolation valve and stopped the spill. There was a large hole that had already been dug there, containing the spill. We used the vactor to retrieve all liquid from the hole, and then spread lime around the surrounding area, and in the hole. 2215 BLOOMINGDALE AVE - VALRICO On 3/15/18 at 2:00 PM received a call from Utility Locator about a force main being hit by a boring contractor (Vasi and Associates Utility Contractors). A Utilities Maintenance Operator was dispatched to investigate and found a 4 force main that was damaged by the boring contractor. The force main was isolated at 4:00PM stopping the overflow. An estimated 20,000 gallons of raw wastewater flowed to an adjacent storm drain that goes to a nearby retention pond, that is completely fenced off with no access to the public. Utilities Maintenance Operators made repairs on the force main and a wash-down was performed on the area affected and lime was put out. Regulatory Agency notification was made to the State Warning Point via phone at 4:28PM (incident # 2018-1701), DEP via voicemail at 4:33PM and EPC via voicemail at 4:36PM on 03/15/18. Red Road and ON Ramp Northwest entrance Turnpike lane On March 15, 2018 contractor hit a 12 inch force main on Red Road near the on ramp Northwest entrance Turnpike lane using an auger causing approximately 1,500 gallons of sewage to spill onto pervious land prior to entering the nearby retention pond. Staff responded immediately and shut down the main. The spill area was disinfected with HTH and thereafter began the process to repair the force main. City of sarasota Reuse Spill, 12th Street & Waterloo Ave City crews found a broken tee on a 2" reclaimed water service line at the intersection of 12th Street and Waterloo Street. The 12" line that feeds the service line was shut down and a contractor notified of the need for repair. The broken service line discharged approximately 601,440 gallons of reclaimed water. The water entered a storm drain that eventually enters Sarasota Bay. The contractor is on site repairing the broken service line. City of sarasota Reclaimed Water Spill, 1850 12th Street A contractor working on the wastewater treatment plant site used a garden hose to fill a storage tank for work to be done the next day. The hose was left unattended overnight. The tank eventually overflowed and discharged approximately 5,000 gallons of reclaimed water on the plant site. The storage tank was located in a secluded area of the treatment plant and was not easily seen. TWA Sandhill WRF Wastewater Spill On March 15, 2018, at approximately 9:55 AM, a wastewater spill occurred for 5 minutes at the TWA Sandhill WRF. The cause of the spill was a float system malfunction at the internal lift station, resulting in an estimated 2,000 gallon spill. The lift station pumps were turned on manually and an electrician was dispatched to address the issue. The spill was entirely contained on-site and the spill area was washed down.
