South Central - Lift Station W20 |
Transformer blew about 10:40pm on June 14, 2018 at lift station W20. The backup generator failed to start due to low oil pressure. This station collects mostly leachate from the landfill. About 1,000 gallons of leachate mixed with raw sewage overflowed into the woods on the property of the lift station. The landfill was contacted to stop pumping leachate and overflow ceased by 11pm. A bypass pump was set up by 11:30pm. FPL will be replacing the transformer on 6/15/18. Fleet services was contacted to repair the generator.
Initially the electrician reported 3,000 gallons, which was reported to SWO, but a superintendent went to the site and found it only to be about 1,000 gallons. |

Bypass pump on an air bay had a coupling fail, which released an estimated 510,000 gallons of partially treated wastewater onto the ground. It appeared that some of the release may have crossed the northern end of the property line. Cleanup is currently underway, including recovery of the release on-site, application of hydrated lime, and surface water sampling of Jones Creek. |

On 6/13/2018 heavy rains in the area overwhelmed the wastewater collection system and caused a manhole to overflow at the intersections of Lake Hunter Dr. and Unitah Ave. The SSO started at 11:00 PM and was stopped at 12:20 AM on 6/14/2018. An estimated volume of 10,000 gallons was released. Heavy flooding and surface runoff in the are prevented any additional clean up actions by the City. |

Pump Station #3017 Meadowbrook, 6/13/18 |
Field services staff responded to a trouble call at Pump Station 3017 Meadowbrook for SCADA power alarms. The pump station was found to have a tripped breaker which rendered the pump station inoperable. As a result the gravity collection system in the area surcharged eventually leading to a discharge from the pump station wet well hatch covers. Staff were onsite at the time diagnosing the power failure when approximately 50 gallons of untreated wastewater was observed flowing onto the pump station driveway. The discharge entered an adjacent storm water inlet box which discharges into Dwarf Lake. Due to the minimal discharge volume, wide surface area and low water level in the storm water system no recovery could be made. Additionally the steep banks of Dwarf Lake make recovery difficult to attempt with heavy tanker equipment. Field Services staff washed down all affected areas, applied deodorizer and returned the pump station to normal operation.
The approximate gallons released and recovered are estimated to be as follows: 50 gallons released, 0 gallons recovered, 50 gallons unrecovered, and 50 gallons discharged to surface water.
There is little or no potential risk to public health, safety or welfare.

North Brevard - Manhole Overflow |
On June 13, 2018 about 6:30pm Lift Station N6 was overwhelmed with stormwater and there was a clog in the line between 4313 and 4361 Flintshire Way Mims. About 1200 gallons overflowed from two manholes at these addresses and flowed into a ditch behind the homes. Vac trucks were not able to get behind the homes to recover any of the spill but lime was spread and contaminated water signs were posted. The flow stayed in the ditch and did not flow tot he nearby retention pond. Lift Station N6 was pumped down and the line cleared with jet truck. Overflow stopped and all back online by 12am. |

The event was caused by PLC # 4 which failed due to loss of communication during emergency power use, PLC # 4 controls the facility effluent pumping station (Wetlands and RIB). As a result fully treated, chlorinated and PAR quality final effluent from the chlorine contact tanks #1 & #2 overflowed onto a unpaved grassy area and entered the west storm water retention pond located onsite. The pond did not overflow and no other areas were affected. The pond water level was (and remains) well below the retention pond outfall invert elevation. Therefore, no discharge flowed into Lake Marden. No recovery was made due to the quality of the reclaimed water that was discharged.
The approximate gallons released and recovered are estimated to be as follows: 10,000 gallons released, 0 gallons recovered, 10,000 gallons unrecovered, and 0 gallons discharged to surface water.
There is little or no potential risk to public health, safety or welfare.
