City of Ormond Beach SSO 880 Airport Rd A sanitary sewer overflow was identified on September 8, 2018 near 880 Airport Rd in Ormond Beach, FL 32174. At approximately 6:54pm the City received notification an air relief valve was destroyed by a motor vehicle accident. The vehicle drove over the valve at 6:08pm causing sewage from the force main to escape onto the surrounding ground. The City estimated 5,400 gallons of sewage was released prior to flow being terminated by the City┐s collection crew at 9:00pm. Utilities staff was able to remove an estimated 2000 gallons of sewage from the contaminated area via vac truck. The sewage flowed down the roadway and was contained in a natural area near the railroad crossing and Airport Rd without entering any stormwater systems. Also, the spill was contained well before reaching any waterways including the nearby Tomoka River. Staff washed down the roadway with potable water to remove any residual. In an effort to further mitigate the site, approximately 150 pounds of lime was applied to the location on September 9th. The air relief valve was abandoned and the ground was restored. At approximately 11:52pm on September 8, 2018 Utilities staff called the Florida DEP hotline to report the release. Incident number 2018-5676 was assigned to this event. 09/10/2018 15:16 EDT Along Airport Rd Near 880 Airport Rd 880 Airport Rd; Ormond Beach  FL; 32174 Volusia Shawn Horsley Environmental Regulatory Compliance Coord. shawn.horsley@ormondbeach.org (386) 676-3336 Owner Of the Facility Shawn Horsley (386) 676-3336 shawn.horsley@ormondbeach.org 29.30819 -81.100618 09/08/2018 18:55 EDT No 09/08/2018 21:00 EDT Incident Location
