Murphy USA No. 7704 |
At Murphy USA 7704, a fuel carrier dropped fuel into the underground storage tanks around 2:30 am on 3/13/23. He did not notice the fuel spill before he drove away. The Murphy station was closed for the day so the spill was not noticed until the Murphy District Manager visited the around 820 pm. He observed the spill and immediately called the Murphy Support Center who called Murphy¿s Emergency Response coordinator (Texas Rural Fire Department) who dispatched A-T-C of Bartow Florida to the site for a site inspection and to clean-up the fuel spill. A-C-T arrived at the site at 1229 am on 3/14/23. A-C-T estimated approximately 100 gallons of diesel fuel was spilled and was located mainly near the tank pit area. The diesel fuel was contained by the concrete drive and concrete curbs and no fuel entered a storm drain. A-C-T used absorbent pads to clean the spill. The absorbent pads were containerized in 55-gallon steel drums which A-C-T removed from the site for offsite disposal. A-C-T departed the site at 226 am on 3/14/23. |

A contractor assisting JEA was pumping down a lift station and did not lock the valve at the rear of the truck. Once the suction on the vac truck ceased, the valve opened releasing the contents of the vac truck on the grass, street and nearby surcharged storm drains. Other vac trucks in area were able to wash down and recover all solids from roadway and recover sewer from storm drains. |
