Circulating Water Overflow On May 13, 2023, at 10:20 am, the Citrus Combined Cycle Station was impacted by a severe thunderstorm. Lightning damaged instrumentation controlling the Power Block One (PB1) cooling tower blowdown. As a result, the PB1 cooling tower overflowed approximately 1/8 inch of water over the cooling tower basin wall intermittently for 10 (ten) minutes which is estimated to be around 16,000 gallons of untreated circulating seawater originating from the intake canal, with pH of 7.0 su. The water spilled to a pervious gravel surface directly outside the cooling tower basin. The PB1 cooling tower was shut down immediately following the incident and will be restored once the damaged equipment can be repaired. The circulating water did not leave the property and did not reach surface waters. 05/13/2023 04:07 PM Citrus Combined Cycle Station 14385 North Access Road; Crystal River FL; 34428 Citrus Ilia Balcom Lead Environmental Specialist Ilia.Balcom@duke-energy.com (813) 362-5123 Owner of the Facility/Installation Ilia Balcom (813) 362-5123 Ilia.Balcom@duke-energy.com 28.969128 -82.671641 05/13/2023 10:20 AM No 05/13/2023 10:30 AM Incident Location
