Manholes overflowed associated to pump station 021 located at 10137 118th Avenue N., Largo. Started started at 11:01 ended at 11:30 on 9/11/17. Samples were collected on 9/12/17 ~ 1230 PM and signs posted; bacteriological results passed. Generators in place and/or rotated until power was restored - debris clean-up as needed. Waterway Affected: Lake Seminole. Spill amount: 29,755 gallons. Cause of release: Hurricane Irma resulting in power failure at pump station.

Berth 13 Manifold Release, Port Everglades |
On September 13th, 2017 at 0300 in Berth 13 of Port Everglades, Florida, a gasket failed on the manifold valve causing discharge to intercostal waterway. The activity was shutdown immediately with a discharged volume of less than 25 gallons. The spill contractor was notified while the location of discharge was cleaned. Proper authorities were contacted. To finalize, the U.S. Coast Guard inspected and approved the cleanup efforts. The vessel commenced pumping thereafter.

Large amounts of debris came into the main plant lift station at once causing the pumps to rag up and the wastewater to spill out of a manhole and into a storm drain leading to Lake Conine. Staff installed a bypass pump and started working on clearing debris from the station. Cleaned up spill areas and spread lime. Ordered a larger bypass pump to pump the lift station to the headwork's during the lift station recovery process. |

Treated Etoniah Creek Water Release to Wetlands |
A cooling tower overflowed when an air valve failed in an open position due to a lockout at a nearby unloading station. The overflow consisted of approximately 3,000 gallons of treated Etoniah Creek water. The cooling tower water ran into a storm drain, a ditch and wooded area before reaching the storm water outfall to a nearby wetland. There is no associated risk to public health and safety or to the environment. |
