Ammonia Release - 04-29-2021 Approximately 500 pounds of anhydrous ammonia was released at the Riverview Dry Products plant 6. Wastewater Spill- 1225 Hillsboro Mile Hillsboro Beach Wastewater crews responded to a complaint of a sewer blockage. Wastewater was spilled from a cleanout and went into the roadway. Approximately 100 gallons were spilled and approximately 90 gallons were recovered using the vacuum truck. No waterways were impacted. 700 Columbia Blvd (200' east on side of road in grass area) On Thursday, 4/29/21 at 4:57 PM, a possible sewer break near 700 Columbia Blvd was reported to City staff. At approximately 6:40 PM on 4/29/21 City staff located force main break and isolated force main valves in order to stop sewer spill. Investigation found that the 10" cast iron force main had split and had a 6" hole in the bottom of it. City workers cut out and removed a 20' piece of 10" cast iron and replaced it with 20' of 10" PVC. Approximately 60,000 gallons of sewer spilled and was contained on site. City crews then used vac truck to recover approximately 20,000 gallons of escaped sewer and disinfected area with HTH. 410 Friday Rd, Cocoa, Sewage Spill On April 27, 2021 at 2:00 pm Cocoa Utilities Dept. received a call of broken sewage force main at 410 Friday Road. Powerline Extreme Construction was putting in power poles and ran the augar threw the 8" sewer main braking the pipe causing sewage to run in the storm water drains in that area. Maintenance Crews arrived at the location and shut down Lift Station #30 and began shutting valves north and south of the area at about 2:30 pm. The flow was shut off so repairs could begin. At about 4:00 pm all repairs were complete. The spill was estimated to be around 2500 gallons of raw wastewater. Some of the spill flowed into into a homeowner's yard and some flowed into storm structure area that leads to State Road 520 ditch area. Both areas were cleaned with the vac-co truck. Three full loads were removed from the storm structure and ditch area, about 2700 gallons. The State Warning Point Toll Free Number was called on to report the spill about 4:50 pm on 4/27/2021 and the event was assigned incident #2021-2241. 3755 Cheney Hwy - 6" Force Main Hit and Damaged Service Electric was installing power poles along Cheney Highway when they hit and damaged the 6" PVC force main at approximately 4 PM on Tuesday, April 27th. City staff isolated force main valves and turned off contributing lift stations, in order to stop sewer spill. Spill stopped at approximately 8:30 PM on Tuesday, April 27th. City staff cut out a 3' piece of broken 6" PVC pipe and replaced it with 3' of 6" ductile iron pipe. Approximately 48,000 gallons of sewer spilled and was contained on site. City crews then used Vactor truck to recover escaped sewer and washed area down with HTH. SW Corner of Racetrack Rd and Philips HWY A contractor ran over a force main valve causing 14,400 gallons of sewer to release onto the ground. The valve was replaced and the sewer soaked into the ground. 2,500 gallons of sewer were recovered and hydrated lime was applied to area accessible to the public.
