Headwaters at Duette Preserve
The Headwaters at Duette Preserve has the unique distinction of comprising the headwaters of the Manatee River. At this site, visitors will find the beginning of a river that stretches for over 60 miles before ending at the Gulf of Mexico. The Headwaters have recently undergone an extensive wetland restoration project. This area of land was historically used for agricultural purposes. As the settlers' activities had modified the location's hydrology the restoration work was designed to re-establishing the historic footprint of interior wetlands in order to protect and preserve the Manatee River and the surrounding land.
