Blazing Star Preserve
Blazing Star Preserve consists of 24-acres of Florida scrub and two acres of wetland at its north end. It is adjacent to a larger municipal park (132-acre Sugar Sand Park), and 29-acre Cypress Knee Slough Preserve to its north. Together, these three parcels make up one of the largest natural areas remaining in Boca Raton, and provide habitat for gopher tortoises and other wildlife that have been displaced from most of the surrounding areas by development. Songbirds, butterflies, and other wildlife live here among pines, oaks, saw palmettos, and less common plants, including the park's namesake wildflower, blazing star (Liatris). Most wildlife viewing is at its best early in the day and during bird migrations. In addition to the listed amenities, the preserve also has information kiosks, a bicycle rack, and guided tours. Pets are not allowed inside Blazing Star Preserve.
