Sam Atkins Park Addition
The Sam Atkins Park Addition adds 180 acres to the County's Sam Atkins' 10 field ball park. Twenty (20) acres of the expansion provides 2 ball fields adjacent to the Sutton Creek floodplain buffer. The bulk of this expansion site provides passive recreational opportunities in this otherwise active use community park. Northwest of the park's ball fields is a 160 acre tract of pineland, mixed forest and bottomland swamp protecting blackwater Sutton Creek, tributary to the Apalachicola River. This portion of the park provides visitors a multi-use trail system suitable for hikers, bicyclists and horseback riders, and a relaxing canopied picnicking area at the trailhead off a remote park access dirt road. Sam Atkins Park Addition is 1/2 mile north of State Road 20 on Silas Green Street (also known as 19th street) on the west side of the City of Blountstown and State Road 71.
