Tree Hill Nature Center Addition
Tree Hill Nature Center is a 50 acre nature preserve and park in Jacksonville's Arlington suburb. Protection of the site began in 1975 with state acquisition of 36 acres through its Environmentally Endangered Lands (EEL) Program. In 1980 the nonprofit now known as Tree Hill, Inc. acquired 4 acres adjacent to the City-leased State EEL property. The City, with FCT assistance, acquired the 10 acre Addition in 1998. The three properties are managed by Tree Hill to provide recreation and outdoor educational opportunities for the community. Amenities on the 10 acre City/FCT site include a nature trail and an amphitheater with restrooms. The State EEL property is the main entrance to the Preserve and provides nature trails, animal encounter areas, interpretive signs and the nature center. A new boardwalk being installed in 2013 will link the park trails. The Joseph A. Strasser Annual Butterfly Festival takes place in April.
