Cocoa Conservation Area
The primary purpose of the project is to preserve natural open space in an urban portion of the City of Cocoa. The site is comprised of wet flatlands, mesic flatlands, oak and pine scrub, and seepage wetland. The site was selected because of its proximity to neighborhoods lacking park facilities and the configuration of the site gives the City ownership of the surrounding wetlands and uplands to provide space for park improvements and buffer the lake from surrounding urban land uses. The applicant proposes to make the project site part of a larger overall greenway system for Brevard County. The applicant also proposes to provide picnic shelters, parking, public restrooms, trails.
