Mershon Williams Yellow Jacket Landing
Mershon Williams Yellow Jacket Landing is located on the Suwannee River adjacent to the Lower Suwannee National Wildlife Refuge in Old Town. The park site is adjacent (southwest of) the County boat ramp and currently provides a small parking area for boat trailers. This acquisition protects additional land along the Suwannee River while providing recreational opportunities for community residents and visitors. The property features predominantly natural communities, including floodplain forest and blackwater stream. A historic homestead remains onsite. The county will construct a picnic pavilion, volleyball court, fishing pier/boat dock, nature trail, and campsites for public recreation and enjoyment, as well as a staffed nature center offering educational programs for the community. The project also will enhance the state designated Suwannee River Wilderness Trail by providing a paddling trail sign, canoe/kayak launch, and restrooms.
