Spurgeon Cheek Trailhead Camp
Spurgeon Cheek Trailhead Camp is located on the Steinhatchee River in the community of Jena. The site is not open to date. The purpose of the project is to provide a water access park/campground and protect
natural communities. The property features salt marsh and intact wetlands, which provide suitable habitat for listed wading birds. The County will conduct hydrologic restoration to
improve tidal flushing. The proposed recreational amenities include a covered picnic pavilion, fishing pier/boat dock, hiking trail, double boat ramp, and campsites. In addition, acquisition of this property enhances the state designated Florida Circumnavigation Saltwater Paddling Trail by providing facilities, including a paddling trail sign, canoe/kayak launch, and restrooms.
